Careers in Massage Therapy are on the rise.  With so many more options for choice of practice and field there is a definite need for Massage Therapists in the medical spectrum.

Two Chicago-area hospitals are about to add massage therapy to their planned outpatient cancer services, according to an article published by the Chicago Tribune newspaper.

The hospitals are Adventist La Grange and Adventist Hinsdale, in Hinsdale, Illinois. ”The Adventist Cancer Institute will house an array of cancer-related services—including diagnostics, chemotherapy, radiation, surgical consultation, phlebotomy, massage therapy, rehabilitation, counseling and a chaplain,” the article stated.

The need for outpatient cancer services is “expected to grow by more than 30 percent over the next decade,” the article noted. To read the full article, click here.

Choosing a Massage School

Important Things to Consider When Selecting a Massage Therapy School in New Jersey

First of all, when selecting a massage therapy school in New Jersey, or anywhere for that matter, make sure that you have the aptitude to become a massage therapist. Massage therapy is a great career for people with a warm, kind, and caring nature. Do you have that type of personality? If so and you look forward to treating people who are recovering from an illness or sports injury, or who need help in relaxing, then massage therapy is probably for you.Rizzieri Massage Therapy School in New Jersey

But if you want to become a massage therapist you need more than an empathetic outlook on life. Most massage therapy training covers topics such as physiology, biology, and anatomy, in addition to massage therapy techniques. So make sure that you have a background in these scientific areas as well as an aptitude to succeed in more advanced course work.

Attending a massage therapy school requires an investment of both time and money. So, you want to be sure that you choose the right school. Here are some tips that Sue Painter, L.M.T, a massage therapist and coach to other massage therapists, suggests:

1. Make sure the school you are considering will prepare you to meet all state and/or local licensing requirements.

2. Review staff qualifications and experience in both massage and instruction.

3. Study the course offerings and match them to your interests.

4. If you need financial aid, ask whether the school offers it and be prepared to submit required documents.

5. Avoid schools that don’t offer much in marketing and business-skills training.

6. Look for a school whose class and clinical schedule is one you can fully participate in.

7. Check out the school’s placement services and how successful they are at helping graduates find good work.

If you’re trying to decide how to choose a massage therapy school, you will probably find her article helpful. If you’d like to take a look at the best massage therapy school in New Jersey, we invite you to evaluate the Rizzieri School for the Healing Arts!
